Razer Mamba Mouse

An 80s-inspired animated ad for the Razer Mamba by Razer, blending liquid effects with hyper-real 2D and 3D animation.

Storyboard

I sketched out multiple cards of potential scene ideas I had for my mouse advertisement. Once I was happy with these cards I placed them together and began to create a selection of potential shots I could use.

Animatic

For the animatic I made sure my retro style was present along with the liquid motion I was planning on merging with the scene. These were quick still frame illustrations created in Illustrator to demonstrate a more refined idea of how each scene will play out. I also needed to make sure my animation aligned with my original storyboard ideas.

Cinema 4D Environment

I began to learn Cinema 4D and was looking at tutorials before creating my animatic for the advertisement. This was beneficial because it meant that even in pre-production, I was able to build a stronger and more fleshed out idea. This helped me later when it came to finalizing design aesthetics and the liquid motion effects in my scene.

Model Texturing

I also needed to make sure my animation aligned with my original storyboard ideas.

2D Motion Graphics

Each scene effect, I vectored as a still frame in Illustrator and imported the vector assets into After Effects. I wanted to stick to a cartoon liquid aesthetic for the vectors so that when I animated them they already looked stylized.

Final Composition

I decided to split the effects and mouse up into their own scene renders. This would mean there would be two renders. One for the retro environment + reflections and the other for the mouse and motion effects. This was good as it meant I could edit each element of my scene separately for colour correction, glow, and exposure levels.

I added bloom to the composition to make the scene glow and feel more vibrant. This especially worked on the retro grid on the ground plane.

The typography was designed in Adobe Photoshop and imported into After Effects as text layers that I could freely animate. I designed these titles when creating my animatic and this was good because it gave me plenty of time to animate them how I wanted.
